Could stripping Jon Jones be a real possibility?
Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall
Jon Jones is the current UFC Heavyweight Champion, while Tom Aspinall is the current interim Heavyweight Champion. While it only makes sense for the two to fight, it seems like Jon Jones just isn’t interested. With this, many fans are asking for Jon to be stripped of his gold and move on with Tom Aspinall and another opponent.
Meanwhile, Dana White maintained his thought that the fight will happen and has said several times over that the fight will happen. But, has that thought changed? Dana White sat down for an interview today with Jim Rome of The Jim Rome Show, which airs live on X. In the interview he was asked about this whole situation and while Dana did say “Jon Jones has never turned down an opponent here, or been afraid to fight anybody.” With more clarification, Dana may be close to moving on.
I don’t know, we’ll see how this thing plays out over the next couple weeks. But, yeah, if we can’t get this fight done, we’ll move on quickly.
When asked how long they’ll wait on this answer, Dana reiterated a couple of weeks.
I said a couple weeks, yeah, we’ll have answers in the next couple weeks.
Dana had previously stated that Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall would “100%” happen, and had even claimed that Jon Jones “accepted” the fight. Now, it seems like the fight is actually in jeopardy. Wether we actually find out in a couple of weeks, or it takes months, that’s a different story.
Hopefully we do find out soon and Tom Aspinall can get some clarification on his future, as he said his eyes are on the gold and it doesn’t matter if he fights Jon Jones or someone else for the undisputed title, he just wants the championship.
