Sean O’Malley Admits To Being More Nervous Than Ever For UFC 316
Sean O’Malley knows Merab’s a machine.
UFC 316 Aftermath
Merab Dvalishvili is still the UFC Bantamweight Champion following UFC 316 on June 7. He successfully defended the gold when he submitted Sean O’Malley in round 3 of the main event. Sean did hold his own, and seemingly won the second round, but Merab’s pressure caught up to him and his strength was too much.
While on his own TimboSuga Show, Sean and his coach Tim talked about the fight and Sean Admitted that Merab felt stronger, and though he had no excuses, he did say he felt the most nervous he’s ever felt before fight.
He felt different. He felt stronger. […] I definitely felt this kind of nervous feeling that I’m not used to, just because how the first fight played out, know his cardio’s so crazy, knowing if it hits the ground, like, I knew I worked on the takedown defense so much and I knew I was able to get up. But, I’m like, I also know there’s a chance that this fight plays out the same way it did. So, it’s like, in the back, I was more nervous this fight probably than I’ve ever been. Like, you feel vulnerable, you’re in the cage like “alright, if this motherfucker grabs ahold of me, there’s a chance that I can’t get away from this little fucker.”
Sean said he has no excuses and everything went good from camp to weight cut, he just didn’t get the win that night. Always great to see fighters give their opponents respect following a fight. Merab Dvalishvili is indeed a machine!
