The Ultimate Fighter Season 33 episode 3 is in the books.
TUF 33: Rodriguez vs. Memon
This week, Team Daniel Cormier’s Imanol Rodriguez took on Team Chael Sonnen’s Arshiyan Memon. Both made weight, 125lbs for Rodriguez and 126lbs got Memon. Both men got into it verbally during the weigh-ins and had to be pulled away by their coaches, but, it all came down to the fight in the cage. With both teams each having one win, tonight sees someone take the lead for their team.
As the bout began, they started swinging. It was clear that Memon’s defense wasn’t the best. Even coach Chael was telling him to keep his chin down. Rodriguez was kicked low, and Memon was given a warning. Then, Coach Cormier was telling Rodriguez to go to the body, and it worked. A kick to the body dropped Memon, but he was able to survive and get up. Rodriguez took him down, and had the back, landed a few strikes, but Memon was able to get up again.
Rodriguez then started to tee-off on the feet. Chael warned Memon to not keep his chin up, but he didn’t listen. Rodriguez was landed straight’s and uppercuts and Memon wasn’t firing back and the referee stepped in. Imanol Rodriguez gets the first round TKO and gets a big win for Team Cormier.
With the win, Daniel Cormier gets to pick the next matchup. He picks a welterweight bout (170lbs) between Cormier’s Jeff Creighton and Sonnen’s Andreeas Binder. Cormier is now up 2-1 over Chael. We’ll see if Chael can tie things up next week!
