Post-UFC 316
Mario Bautista got a big win Saturday night when he defeated the debuting Patchy Mix by dominant unanimous decision. The bout was on the main card, where every other winner of each fight received a post-fight interview. But, for some reason, Mario didn’t.
Mario Bautista was scrutinized for his last performance against Jose Aldo, so he went into this one to try and be more entertaining. And still, no interview. Today, Mario spoke on The Ariel Helwani Show where he was asked if he was disappointed with not being able to speak post-fight.
A little bit. You know, afterwards I was just thinking like “man, I did everything, I did the exact opposite of what I did to Aldo”, you know? I held Aldo, now I fought Patchy and I stood up with him the whole time and it just still didn’t seem good enough. I don’t know if it’s a UFC thing, I don’t know if it was a Trump time delay, whatever it was, it was a little bit weird, yeah. Now that I think of it, I’m just thinking “man, that’s kind of like, messed up.” But, I don’t know.
Ariel then asked him if he got any answers afterwards about that and if anyone said anything to him about not getting an interview.
No, I wasn’t really going to push it, you know? I was, in my mind I’m thinking like “well, I’m going to go in the back and we’ll do media there and I’ll do media stuff here.” But, yeah, even if I wanted to cut a promo, they didn’t even give me the chance to do that.
Ariel pointed out that there is no time constraint since his fight was on pay-per-view. They could’ve gave him an interview, but, they just didn’t. It was a weird situation. Despite that, Mario did get the win and is looking for one more fight before going after the Bantamweight title, which is held by the UFC 316 main event winner, Merab Dvalishvili.
