Maycee Barber Speaks Out About Her UFC Pull Out, Not Sure If She Had A Seizure
Maycee Barber is not sure what happened.
Maycee Barber was set to have a main event fight against Erin Blanchfield this past Saturday at UFC Vegas 107. Sadly, seconds before the fight was about to start, they revealed that the main event fight was cancelled due to medical issues with Maycee.
This left everyone in a whirlwind of emotions. Fans weren’t happy, commentary was confused and her opponent, Erin Blanchfield, was obviously upset. UFC interviewed Erin on the broadcast to fill time and she revealed that she was told Maycee had a seizure. This was a non-confirmed rumor at the time and no one knew if Erin was correct or not.
Now, Maycee Barber was interviewed today on The Ariel Helwani Show where he asked her about Saturday night and what happened. Maycee doesn’t remember.
I’m not quite sure. Obviously, I was in the back warming up, and then obviously people also are asking about the weight cut just because of me missing weight, you know? And why I missed weight and all that. Again, I’m not quite sure what went wrong, but, something happened during the weight cut that the coaches were like okay, and Tyler, they called it off because they didn’t want me to keep cutting and they felt that if I kept cutting, I was going to end up in the hospital. And then, during the warmup, you know, the rehydration was fine everything was great, I felt good on fight day and then I was warming up and to be honest, that’s all that I really remember, is warming up. And then I remember being in the back of an ambulance. And that was, that’s really all that I remember. But, I do know that, one thing I do know, is that I’ve cut the same amount of weight before. I’ve done everything the exact same as this week. So, I’m not really sure what happened or what’s going on. But, Hunter and Dr. Davison and all the doctors at UFC, they’re trying to get me the best doctors and the best care and they’re going to be sending me out of state to go and get more exams, go and get more tests, see a neurologist. I had an MRI this morning, so, we’re just trying to figure out what happened and what exactly had gone on, on Saturday.
Ariel followed up to ask if she knows what happened and if she has any idea what her body went through on Saturday night.
No. Obviously I know that Hunter told Erin that, or Erin had said on an interview that I had had a seizure, but, to be honest, we don’t know if it was a seizure. We don’t know that it is that, because there was no doctors necessarily in the room. I’ve seen videos of what happened, I’ve seen everything, and doctors have seen videos and they’re not saying “oh it was 100% that”, they’re just trying to figure out what it was. So, I’ve done CT Scans, I’ve done MRI’s, I’ve done multiple tests already and we’re going to be sending me to some further doctors to get more testing.
She also said that she has zero history of seizures and has never had one before. Obviously, this is a very scary situation for someone to suddenly have what potentially could be a seizure with zero history of it before. We wish Maycee the best in her recovery and hope they can find a cause.
