One of the WWE’s biggest superstars is finally making his first major jump to Hollywood as it seems Roman Reigns could be starring in the first live action Street Fighter Movie.
According to Deadline, the former longest reigning WWE Universal Champion of all time is in talks to star in the movie alongside Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo.
“Reps for the studio declined comment, and the plot of the film remains under wraps. In February, Bad Trip‘s Kitao Sakurai boarded as director, inheriting the project from Talk To Me‘s Danny & Michael Philippou, who attached themselves in April of 2023, following Legendary’s acquisition of exclusive film and TV rights to the Street Fighter IP. The film adaptation is being co-developed and co-produced alongside Capcom, the developer and publisher of the video games. No word has emerged yet on who has written and who specifically will produce the actioner.”
Reigns has been in a few movies which includes the Netflix film The Wrong Missy and being in the same movie as his cousin Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw. Those were both very minor roles but if Reigns officially signs onto the project, this will be a major role in a possible major new franchise.
Street Fighter is one of the most popular video games of all time. Since its launch in 1987, the game has sold over 55 million units worldwide making it one of the highest grossing video game franchises of all time. The game itself is a mixed martial arts game when you go one on one in a tournament.
Reigns hasn’t been on WWE television since the Raw after Wrestlemania which was on April 21st. In that segment, Reigns was attacked by the new faction of Seth Rollins, Paul Heyman and Bron Breakker. The storyline included him and CM Punk but since not being on television, this story has added Sami Zayn to be on Punk’s side in the feud.
