No Current Plans for a Cody Rhodes Heel Turn

Former Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes was indeed pitched a heel turn earlier this year but after the Rock seemed to still to be open to that happening in an interview with Pat Mcafee, that seems not to be the direction in the near future.

According to Fightful Select, people inside WWE don’t want to put the spotlight back on the Cody heel turn thoughts after what happened at Wrestlemania and what the Rock had to say on the Pat Mcafee show.

“A number of people were against the idea of turning Cody Rhodes heel, noting his heavy contributions to the company’s ticketing and merchandise success.”

Earlier this year, both Fightful and Wrestling Observer reported that Cody was pitched to do the heel turn at Elimination Chamber but the people around Rhodes were not in favor of the big character change due to things like merchandise, ticket sales and the fact that he still gets huge babyface reactions.

A Cody Rhodes heel turn has been a big topic in wrestling since he started AEW in 2019. Rhodes made a stand while in AEW that he would never turn heel. Towards the end of his run there, the crowd began booing him and that still didn’t lead to a heel turn.

Rhodes has not been a full time heel since he was in Bullet Club and wrestling for New Japan and Ring of Honor. In most of his first run in WWE, Rhodes was a heel. If it was being Dashing Cody Rhodes or being in The Legacy.

Even though The Rock said that they should revisit the Cody selling his soul story, it seems that creative plans for 2025 for Rhodes had him as a babyface during the whole year.
