Exclusive: Who Picked Joe Hendry To Be Randy Orton’s WrestleMania 41 Opponent Revealed

Say his name, and he appears.

Randy Orton was originally scheduled to face Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 41. However, Kevin Owens required neck surgery, which resulted in him being pulled from the match leaving Orton without an opponent for WrestleMania 41.

WWE pivoted and an Open Challenge was scheduled for Randy Orton on night 2 of WrestleMania 41. There was a lot of speculation as to who would end up being Orton’s opponent, which ended up being TNA World Heavyweight Champion Joe Hendry.

I spoke with sources about the Joe Hendry vs. Randy Orton match at WrestleMania, and can confirm that there were multiple names pitched to be Randy’s open challenge opponent. But in the end it was Randy Orton who hand picked Joe Hendry to be his WrestleMania 41 opponent. It was also noted that Orton is a fan of Joe Hendry and his work.

“I was informed that multiple names were pitched for Randy Orton’s open challenge at WrestleMania but Orton hand picked Joe Hendry as he is a fan of Hendry and his work”

Orton defeated Joe Hendry in just over three minutes at WrestleMania 41, but Hendry’s appearance was one of the highlights of the weekend.
