Bret Hart On WrestleMania 13 Match: I Don’t Think There’s A Better Match
Bret Hart is a three time Hall Of Famer.
WrestleMania 13
Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold from WrestleMania 13 has officially been announced as the first match ever to be going into the WWE Hall Of Fame. Not only that, this now marks a record three times Bret Hart is entering the WWE Hall Of Fame. First as a singles star, then a tag team star with the Hart Foundation, and now in this match.
Bret sat down with the Ariel Helwani Show today and spoke about the match going into the Hall Of Fame and revealed that it’s actually his number one favorite match.
Found out a few months ago that it was going to happen, but you never know if it’s ever going to happen until it happens. So, then I did find out a few days ago that the announcement came out and so that kind of verified that it was in fact going to happen for me. But, it’s a big honor. I’m really quite proud of that. Especially that match, the work that I had with Steve Austin, I think it’s, you know, if you ask me in truth if I thought there was a better match somewhere, I mean, I don’t think there’s a better match. It’s just magic what we did that night.
Ariel then went on to clarify if that match at WrestleMania 13 is at the top of his all time favorites list.
It’s been at the top probably since I had it. I have a lot, I have like my all-time favorites, I think the match I had with the Bulldog in Wembley was probably my first greatest match in the sense that it was the first one that I wasn’t a team or, it was just me by myself going out there and putting that match together. That was a beautiful match. The Iron Man Match with Shawn Michaels, I mean, you can say what you want about our relationship and you know. The truth is, is that it’s hard to top that match. That was a great match. Two guys in their prime pit against each other, both going 100 miles an hour giving everything they could. And those are my top three, but, Steve was, Steve Austin match was just such a gem. Like, all the little things and all the little twists and turns and you know, the objective was sort of an experiment. I don’t think anyone realized that we were, I knew and Steve found out that day, that I was going to turn heel the following night on RAW. I was going to do an interview where I turned heel on the fans. We were the only two that knew that and I don’t know that, in Steve’s case, that it necessarily helped him and I put the match together but, knowing that was going to be the end result. But, I also knew, my instincts told me that Steve was also going to turn. I think Steve’s attitude at the time was that he was going to try to resist that a little bit and try to stay heel for as long as he could and maybe was going to turn eventually down the road, which is basically what happened, but, i was like, I kind of knew it was a heel turn and a babyface turn all in the same match. And the psychology of that and just the way we orchestrated it is, I always think about you know, when I walked out to the ring, I was, I got a pretty hearty cheer from everybody, I was the good guy and I was the hero, but when I went out and I walked back through the same crowd at the end of it, I was definitely the bad guy. And it was like, so what happened in 30 minutes or 35 minutes that changed all that and that’s the story telling that, that’s the reason I think that match was as great as they’re saying it is today.
The WWE Hall Of Fame goes down on Friday, April 18th at 10PM PT.
