GFL is finally ready.
Global Fight League
Global Fight League (GFL) had been announced as a promotion at the beginning of the year. The promotion is a team-style MMA promotion with teams across the world in select locations. In February, the GFL held their draft event where teams were picked and then fight announcements were made.
But, all this happened without an actual show announcement. There was no date, time, venue or location announced for any of this, which led fans to wonder if it was all too good to be true, with a roster mixed with MMA legends and newcomers. Well, today, we finally have a show date.
Ariel Helwani first broke the news earlier today that GFL will hold their first events on May 24th and 25th at the Shrine Auditorium is Los Angeles, California. Ariel went on to say that the events and their promoter’s license have been approved by the California State Athletic Commission. GFL backed this up by quoting Ariel’s tweet and saying “most curious” before then re-tweeting roster member Derek Brunson’s post which said “Let the games begin ! @mmagfl . Real MMA fan where y’all at!😤”
Ariel as well followed up to reveal fights for the May event(s) which include:
- Tony Ferguson vs. Dillon Danis
- Uriah Faber vs. Ranan Barao
- Benson Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis
- Douglas Lima vs. Uriah Hall
