Leon Edwards Asked UFC What Time He’d Be Fighting Before Accepting UFC London Bout
Leon Edwards doesn’t mess around.
Leon Edwards vs. Sean Brady
Leon Edwards is a U.K. Native. But, the last time he fought in his hime country, he lost his Welterweight Championship against Belal Muhammad. Though the fight was in London, the card was still on the American time zone. So, the main event bout actually started around 5 A.M. for them. Following the loss, Leon did say that the time zone scheduling did mess him up, and he felt tired, slow, and just not all there.
Monday, Leon joined the Ariel Helwani Show and revealed that he actually asked what time the fight would be at, after Ariel joked that he wanted another 5 A.M. bout.
Haha! Never again, haha! The first thing they said to me, they’re coming back to the U.K. in March, I was like “what time? What time are we fighting first?” They’re like “normal time”, I’m like “okay, perfect, let’s do it!” You know? That 4 A.M., 5 A.M. walkout was madness, you know? And I tried my best to get into it, but, I just couldn’t. For some reason, my body, for the last however long I’ve been training and doing mixed martial arts, I’ve been fighting at a similar time, so yeah. It is what it is.
Leon did say he pins “a lot” on that time frame effecting his performance and went on to say it made his reactions slow. He did mention that he lost a close fight on his worst day. Now, this Saturday, Leon Edwards will fight Sean Brady at a normal time for him, but it’ll be Brady, the American, who has to adjust to that timezone.
