Dana White Updates Status Of TKO Boxing
TKO Boxing is coming.
UFC 313 Press Conference
Following Saturday’s UFC 313 Press Conference, Dana White addressed the media and took questions. While he did have questions and answers about the UFC product and business, many media members were very intrigued about Dana White’s announcement earlier this week with Turki Alalshikh and Nick Khan that a boxing league is coming under the TKO umbrella.
Dana did mention that the fight game is a hard game to be in, and he believes Turki found that out fast. So, Dana revealed that he will be the one managing and running the business of TKO Boxing. He notes Turki’s excitement to announce things quickly and have one of one type events, such as the Sphere, but, Dana wants to pump the breaks on that and work everything out.
White went on to speak about how he believes the sport of boxing is broken and he’s looking to build it back from the ground up, similar to what he did when he purchased UFC. He complimented USA Networks Tuesday Night Fights having the best up and coming fighters fight each other there before becoming pay-per-view stars and that is what he envisions with this league. He also slyly noted that he hopes he does not have to share a stage with the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, as the two do not like each other.
Canelo Alvarez provided support of TKO Boxing, which Dana was happy about and feels it’s a good thing when the stars and faces of boxing are also excited. He says that he will have a meeting on Wednesday regarding the boxing side of things to start building the infrastructure and hiring staff.
In regards to where the fights would air, Dana says they’re shopping around for media rights right now. Then, once they get into the weeds, he says he wants to match-make boxing like he does for the UFC and trying to make the best fight the best from the first fight to the last. When asked if they’re sticking with the name ‘TKO Boxing’, Dana so and they’ve put a pin in it. He likes the name, but he alludes that it may change.
Lastly, when asked if we could see big weekends with Boxing, UFC and WWE all together since they’re under the TKO umbrella, Dana said yes. Powerslap on Thursday, UFC and Boxing possibly both on Saturday and WWE running on Sunday.
That was the end of the boxing talk. Following Wednesday, maybe we will have more updates. We’ll keep you updated.
