Numerous TNA Departures – Including A Former Champion – Replacements Revealed
Josh Matthews is no longer with TNA Wrestling.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported the news.
While no details have been given surrounding the departures – besides organizational restructuring – this comes as a shock to many as Josh had been with the company for over 10 years, and has always excelled in any role he was given, sometimes even in spite of a lack of resources.
Josh Mathews joined TNA in 2014 as the lead play-by-play commentator, replacing TNA Hall of Famer Mike Tenay.
Matthews has worked many big events in wrestling, spanning from WrestleMania to Bound For Glory.
In March of 2018, Josh was handed the IMPACT Grand Championship from Matt Sydal, as a token of his appreciation for mentoring Sydal. TNA officially recognized Josh as the champion, unlike currently with SDL and the Digital Media Title.
In January of 2021, the commentary booth went through a complete shakeup. It had been Don Callis, Madison Rayne, and Josh Matthews up until that point. As a result, Josh Mathews was promoted to Senior Producer for the weekly TV show and all pay-per-views, and he also signed a new, multi-year contract with the company. Josh had also taken on the role of Senior Director of Digital Content over the last few years.
According to PWinsider, both Christy Hemme & Anthony Cicione have been removed from their positions as well. Cicione was named the President of TNA in 2024 after the departure of Scott D’Amore, and according to Fightful Select back in October, Christie Hemme had been named the Head of Marketing for the company after working in a Creative role.
As far as who will replace them,
according to a new Fightful Select report, current Anthem Sports executives George Veras is taking over as Executive Producer of Anthem Sports Group Leadership team. Andrea Pagnanelli as SVP of Marketing, effectively taking over those roles.
These changes seem very fluid behind the scenes today, and Bodyslam will keep you all updated as more information is made available.
