Rumors have swirled around in the wrestling community in recent weeks about the possible return of Malakai Black (FKA Aleister Black) to WWE.
That smoke became a raging fire this morning when news broke via Fightful that the AEW superstar had been removed from the company’s online roster page.
The inevitable result of this is Black returning to WWE, especially since his wife Zelina Vega resides on the active roster with the company as well. Fightful published the below report after speaking to those within the situation on January 16.
He’s not going back to AEW. He’s finished up with the company and was effectively written off with Will Ospreay’s promo. He’d indicated to friends he wanted to head back to WWE in recent years.
PWInsider has also confirmed that Malakai is now a free agent, adding that his contract with AEW expired yesterday [2/9/25].
Before jumping ship to AEW, Black was one of the original marque guys who helped push the NXT Black and Gold brand to what it is today. If you have not seen him perform yet, you are in for a pleasant surprise. His technical ability mixed with an undeniable charisma will make him a huge addition to an already stacked main roster under Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque.
Black leaves behind his creation, ‘The House of Black’, that features Brody King, Buddy Matthews and Julia Hart. The trio has now formed a group named ‘The Hounds of Hell’ in recent weeks and seems to be holding steadfast in the absence of their original leader.
Only time will tell if Black is headed to WWE, but If the rumors become true, this will be an incredible opportunity for various dream matches for Black. Members on the main roster such as Penta, Seth Rollins, CM Punk and so many more could create unforgettable moments against someone with the talent of Black.
