GFL is a brand new team based MMA promotion kicking off in April that pits legends and up and coming fighters against each other. Plus, teams will have 6 specific bases with fighters joining either team Dubai, team São Paulo, team Miami, team New York, team London and team Los Angeles. The GFL draft went down Friday night where each city/team went back and forth selecting who they want on their team.
Team Dubai got the first overall pick in the draft and they selected Tyrone Woodley first. Team Dubai also has the likes of Luke Rockhold and Derek Brunson. Meanwhile, Team London has fighters such as Alexander Gustafsson and Benson Henderson, while team Miami is packed with legends like Junior Dos Santos, Anthony Pettis, Paige VanZant, Yoel Romero, Marlon Moraes, Thiago Santos and more.
Team New York has a fun squad featuring the likes of Chris Weidman, Phil Hawes, OSP, Kevin Lee, Holly Holm and even Dillon Danis. Team São Paulo has a plethora of Brazilian fighters including Shogun Rua, Alex Oliveira and Douglas Lima, while team Los Angeles has the likes of Urijah Faber, Andre Arlovski, Rashad Evans, Frank Mir and even Tony Ferguson, who announced he was gone from UFC just hours ahead of being drafted.
