During the TNA Genesis PPV broadcast, and prior to the Main Event World Title match between Joe Hendry and Nic Nemeth, lead commentator Tom Hannifan mentioned that the show was officially SOLD OUT.
While no number was given, a crowd of about 3,000 has been estimated.
Tom would also go on to report that from a business standpoint, Genesis is:
“Highest paid PPV attendance to kick off a year in the company history.”
Throughout the night, PWInsider.com was providing updates on talent who had previously been reported to be on their way out of the company.
Regarding former three-time TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace… in December, Fightful Select had reported that:
“Fightful Select confirmed that Grace’s deal was up in early 2025, as opposed to mid-2025, which was the originally agreed length
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has confirmed that Grace’s last contracted dates for TNA are the weekend of TNA Genesis, January 19, 2025. She’s scheduled to take on Tessa Blanchard at the show.
Following that, Grace is set to hit free agency.”
Jordynne Grace battled Tessa Blanchard for control of the Knockouts division, and in the end Tessa got the better of Grace.
After her match was over, PWInsider provided an “update” on Grace’s status.
“PWInsider.com is told TNA Genesis was Jordynne Grace’s final night with TNA. The belief is she will be WWE bound.”
Last night at the GCW show from the Hammerstein Ballroom, PCO won a Battle Royal. After his match was over, PCO grabbed his TNA Digital Media Title and a sledge hammer. He smashed the belt in the middle of the ring before the cameras cut off.
Following this spectacle, PWinsider.com has an update on his status with the company.
“PCO is done with TNA. We are told his deal expired at the end of the year.
His rant and destruction of a TNA title was legitimate, we are told.”
A recent episode (December 2024) of the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Josh Alexander was the featured guest. One of the topics discussed included Alexander confirming that his current contract with TNA expires on February 15, 2025.
“February 15th, I’ll be a f
ree agent. TNA announced they extended me, they put a year extension on February 14 last year. Into free agency for the first time.”
PWinsider provided an update after the match at TNA Genesis last night.
“After losing his I Quit match to Mike Santana, Josh Alexander announced that he not only quit the match, but he was quitting TNA.
Alexander’s TNA deal is coming up and he will be a free agent by mid-February,” PWInsider.com can confirm.
Backstage, Josh was approached by TNA Director of Authority – and because he’s still under contract – Josh is ordered to appear at the LIVE TNA iMPACT this Thursday to address his status with the company.
Josh Alexander is the longest reigning TNA champion in its 20+ year history.
Will Josh Alexander show up on Thursday? We’ll have to tune in to find out.
