Jerry Lawler No Longer With WWE As Contract Is Not Renewed

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler is no longer with World Wrestling Entertainment, as confirmed by multiple sources to PWInsider.com.

WWE chose not to renew Lawler’s broadcast contract, which marks the end of a relationship that started in December 1992 when he first appeared on an episode of WWF Prime Time Wrestling. His contract expired at the beginning of 2024.

Despite this change, a WWE source noted that Lawler would still be covered under a WWE Legends deal.

Lawler has been less visible publicly since recovering from a stroke in February 2023, and news of his departure only began circulating recently. Lawler’s long tenure with WWE and a dramatic incident where he was resuscitated on camera during a Raw broadcast made the news of his exit particularly surprising.

A source pointed out that under previous management, Lawler would have been assured ongoing ties with the company, but changes in leadership signify a new direction. They noted, “The old company is dead. People can say they hate Vince [McMahon] and Kevin [Dunn], but in the past, certain individuals were guaranteed support. This is no longer the old WWE. Even Howard Finkel wouldn’t have his job for life in this new era.”
