At New Japan Pro-Wrestling SAKURA GENESIS 2024, Tetsuya Naito successfully defended his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against fellow Los Ingobernables de Japon faction member and New Japan Cup 2024 winner Yota Tsuji.

A crowd of over 6,600 fans were in attendance at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo on April 6th to witness Naito reign supreme once again and remain the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Tsuji put up a valiant fight at SAKURA GENESIS 2024 but it just wasn’t enough as Naito was able to hit his Destino finisher at around the thirty four minute mark to emerge victorious.

Following Naito’s victory, his Windy City Riot opponent Jon Moxley came down to the ring to confront the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Their match at Windy City Riot on April 12 in Chicago was originally a non title encounter but during the confrontation, Naito offered to put the championship on the line. Moxley quickly accepted making their upcoming bout an IWGP World Heavyweight Title match.
