Cain Velasquez Released From Prison

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez was released from prison today after less than a year. The former champion was sentenced to prison for attempted murder after shooting and wounding a family member of a man accused of sexually abusing Cain’s son in February of 2022.

The 43 year old was sentenced in Santa Clara County court in San Jose, California, after pleading no contest to felony attempted murder, assault and weapons charges. He was handed a five-year prison sentence, minus time served. Velasquez was credited with 1,283 days served, leaving 542 to serve in person. Cain was originally eligible for parole as early as March 2026, that date was moved forward and on February 15, 2026, Cain has been released from prison. Video footage shows him greeted by his family and even a mariachi band.

Velasquez still has to deal with the fallout from his conviction as he is due back in court on March 18 for a restitution hearing that’s already been delayed for several months.

Wrestling fans may recognize Cain from his time in AAA or his short stint in WWE where he went face to face with Brock Lesnar in 2019. Welcome home, Cain!
