Derrick Lewis cheats?!

Derrick Lewis is back on July 12 in Nashville, Tennessee as he headlines a fight night event against Tallison Teixeira. Derrick Lewis is no stranger to main events at this point and “The Black Beast” is looking for another knockout to add to his legacy.
Recently, Lewis sat down with MMA Junkie to talk about the upcoming fight. But, during the interview, Derrick revealed some interesting tidbits. He cheats. He cheats in fights on purpose!
Lewis spoke about a recent golf excursion he had and while on the topic of cheating at golf, interviewer Mike Bohn said hed never cheat in a fight though, right? Lewis then went in a different direction than expected.
I cheat in a fight, shit, I know one time, shit, I was nervous as hell entering the fight. It was the dude, name, god, what’s that guys name? I kneed him in the nuts. I kneed him in the nuts like right off the bat. As soon as the fight started, I kneed him in the nuts on purpose. Just because I wanted to get my nerves to calm down. Ruan Potts. That fight right there, I kneed him in the nuts. And I cheat, shit, any means necessary. If I wanna start poking eyes and all that, I’m going to poke you in the eye because you’re going to get a warning. They’re not going to take a point as soon as you poke someone in the eye. Shit, everybody knows that. Yeah, so, I’m going to knee him in the nuts, poke them in the eye, do whatever illegal, then they say “oh, no, Derrick!” I’ll be like “oh no, I ain’t, my bad, I ain’t even mean to do that.” But, just know, put me, this is going to be on record, right? Just know, that if I ever do that, and in my previous fights just know, I’m laughing on the inside saying that I got your ass. You know, yeah, I’m going to cheat.
Derrick went on to say that’s on the referees. He knows what he’s doing and if the referees actually took a point the first time, he wouldn’t do it. And as crazy as it sounds, he’s not necessarily wrong. Referees give a warning in the back, but then also give a warning in the fight. If they took points immediately, we’d see less fouls.
It makes you think, who else is cheating purposely because they know they’ll get away with it? Maybe we’ll never know. But, Derrick Lewis is honest.
