Alexander Volkanovski leaving on top?
UFC Retirement Incoming?
Alexander Volkanovski is the former UFC Featherweight Champion and one of the best Featherweights of all time. He’s coming off of a loss to Ilia Topuria where he lost his title back in February of last year. Now, a full year later and he’s coming back to fight.
Ilia Topuria has moved up to lightweight, and has relinquished his title, leaving the Featherweight division without a champion. UFC had then announced that at UFC 314 on April 12, 2025, Alexander Volkanovski vs. rising star Diego Lopes will go down for that vacant title.
Today, Volkanovski joined Ariel Helwani for an interview where he revealed that he plans on winning the title, being active, having two or three more fights then retiring. He noted that the year off has been great for him, saying “I still love it, but how much longer do I wanna do this to myself and my body? I do want to eventually sail off in the sunset, right? I’ve already started that. I’m here on the farm and I enjoyed the last year. It’s been incredible.”
”Win that belt, defend it, maybe defend it again, you know, maybe, or one big fight after a defense, we’ll see, and then maybe I’m done.”
Volkanovski is 26-4 in his MMA career and 13-3 in the UFC. His only losses are to Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria inside the UFC with two of the three being up at lightweight. Volkanovski is already a bonafide Hall Of Famer, but he’s looking to get one more title run before he heads off into the sunset.
