Gran Hamada Passes Away At Age 74
Rest In Peace.
Today, Realidad San Luis first reported the news that Japanese legend Gran Hamada, real name Hiroaki Hamada, sadly passed away at the age of 74 on February 15th in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
Gran Hamada was a pro-wrestler for over 46 years. Beginning in 1972, Hamada wrestled for New Japan Pro-Wrestling before heading to Mexico where throughout his career, he would work at independent shows in the countryas well as for CMLL and AAA. He also had a legendary contest in ECW. He last wrestled in 2018 for Michinoku Pro Wrestling. He held titles in UWA, NWA and was even the WWF Light Heavyweight Champion.
Gran Hamada has two daughters who followed his footsteps, Xóchitl Hamada and Ayako. Xochitl returned to the ring in November 2024 and Ayako wrestled in January 2025. Bodyslam sends condolences to Hamada’s family, friends and fans.
