Bodyslam Exclusive – An Interview With TJPW Princess Of Princess Champion Miu Watanabe
On March 31st, Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling superstar Miu Watanabe won the Princess of Princess Title for the first time in her career when she defeated Miyu Yamashita at GRAND PRINCESS ’24. There were over 2300 fans in attendance at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo to witness Watanabe win the top championship in TJPW.
Watanabe has been a mainstay with TJPW since 2018. At only 24 years old, she is quickly becoming one of the best wrestlers in the world.
The Princess of Princess Champion granted an exclusive interview to Bodyslam.net to discuss winning the title, Miyu Yamashita and more.
Here is the exclusive Bodyslam.net interview with Princess of Princess Champion Miu Watanabe:
Q: Congratulations on becoming the TJPW Princess of Princess Champion. How does it feel to be the Princess of Princess Champion and is this a dream come true for you?
Miu Watanabe: I came into TJPW not knowing anything about pro wrestling, and it was my first dream to become a pro wrestler to beat Yamashita-san! It was an important moment in my life to be able to fight for that dream at Ryogoku Kokugikan with the belt on the line.
Q: The battle against Miyu Yamashita-san was fierce. What are your thoughts on Yamashita-san as a competitor?
Miu Watanabe: Yamashita-san has stood in front of me since the first time I fought her. Her strictness and kindness always make me want to be as strong as her.
Q: Would you call the match with Yamashita-san one of the toughest of your career?
Miu Watanabe: Yes, it was. A match with her is always a tough one.
Q: How did it feel competing in front of over 2300 fans at Ryogoku Kokugikan? Did it make you feel proud that all the fans came to watch Grand Princess ’24?
Miu Watanabe: I hope that those who came to the venue and those who watched the WRESTLE UNIVERSE broadcast will continue to love TJPW.
Q: How will you represent TJPW as the Princess of Princess champion?
Miu Watanabe: I want to be someone who can expand the dreams of my favorite TJPW. I want to see many dreams come true together!
Q: Now that you have the Princess of Princess Title, everyone will be targeting you. How will you prepare knowing that competitors including MIzuki, Rika Tatsumi, Maki Itoh, Pom Harajuku, Moka Miyamoto, Shoko Nakajima and others all want what you now have in the Princess of Princess Championship?
Miu Watanabe: I will train hard so that I can defend myself no matter who challenges me.
Q: Do you enjoy competing in the USA and what do you enjoy most about it?
Miu Watanabe: Yes, I enjoy it.
Q: What message would you like to give all your fans that have supported you over the years?
Miu Watanabe: Thank you for expecting a lot from me for a long time and for your support! I would be happy if you could keep watching me on the road of defense from now on! I love you all!
Q: What are your goals for the remainder of 2024?
Miu Watanabe: I want to defend my belt all the way.
