Tony Khan Wants to Book Jushin Liger for Owen Hart Cup Appearance

Tony Khan is hoping to secure a major appearance for the upcoming Owen Hart Cup.

The 2nd annual Owen Hart Cup tournament, which is set to kick off at the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view, is the one of the biggest annual tournaments that AEW produces. While no participants have been announced just yet, the speculation and intrigue surrounding who will be announced for the upcoming tournament is continuing to grow.

The late Owen Hart and Jushin Liger battled many times in New Japan-Pro Wrestling. While discussing the tournament at the Double or Nothing post-show media scrum, Tony Khan mentioned the idea of having Liger make an appearance sometime during the tournament.

“I’m not sure about this, I’ve had some nice talks, I’m hopeful and I spoke to New Japan Pro-Wrestling, I think it would be great and they think it would great. One of Owen Hart’s great opponents, a rival, they’ve competed, both former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champions, wouldn’t it be amazing if we could get Jushin Thunder Liger over to Canada. He’s competed against Owen Hart and competed in Canada and competed in Stampede Wrestling. That would be something really neat. To coincide with AEW in Canada and Forbidden Door door and our partnership with New Japan, and most importantly the Owen Hart Cup tournament, I think it would be great if Jushin Thunder Liger can come over. I’m optimistic that he’ll be able to.”

In January 2020, Jushin Thunder Liger returned from in-ring competition.

In November 2022, Tony Khan confirmed the return of the Owen Hart Cup tournament for 2023.
