Following This Month’s Battleground Show, The Next WWE NXT PLE Is Expected To Take Place In August

The Memorial Day weekend will be busy for “WWE NXT,” which will compete on Sunday, May 28, with AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view while also running its premier live event, Battleground.

Following that show, it appears that fans will have to wait quite some time before seeing the next big “NXT” show. According to PWInsider, it will take place on August 12, a week after WWE SummerSlam at Detroit, Michigan’s Ford Field. The event’s venue and name have not yet been determined.

This is a little departure for “NXT,” as the WWE’s third brand did not have a PLE in August of last year. Instead, a month later, in September, “NXT” had Worlds Collide. The event featured “NXT UK” talent and was seen as the endpoint for that brand after WWE stated in August that “NXT UK” will be on hiatus, with intentions to rebrand as “NXT Europe” in 2023. Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, “NXT” had traditionally held significant events in August, including TakeOvers in Brooklyn and Toronto.

For the time being, “NXT’s” focus is on Battleground, which will be broadcast from the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts. The show currently features Carmelo Hayes defending the “NXT” Championship against Bron Breakker, the finals of the “NXT” Women’s Championship tournament, Noam Dar vs. Dragon Lee in a British Rules match for the “NXT” Heritage Cup Championship, and Wes Lee defending the “NXT” North American Title against Tyler Bate and Joe Gacy in a three-way match.
