The year is 1988, on his 24th birthday he entered a locker room where he was asked if he wanted to give professional wrestling a shot. Debuting for the Universal Wrestling Association promotion on January 6, 1988 where he was billed as “The Centurion.” Konnan has been in just about every wrestling promotion there is, so the question remains to be asked, why is he not in the WWE Hall of Fame?
WWE WrestleMania 40 being in the city of brotherly love of Philadelphia, PA holds special meaning to Konnan as this is where he helped bring the Lucha Libre style to the United States in Tod Gordon and Paul Heyman’s Extreme Championship Wrestling. It was the year 1996 and the very first match he appeared in for ECW would have been at ECW’s House Party ’96 on January 5, 1996. Konnan would go on to bring other Luchadores to Extreme Championship Wrestling including Rey Mysterio, Juventud Guerrera, Psicosis, La Parka and more.
Konnan recently spoke about inducting long time friend Rey Mysterio into the WWE Hall of Fame and conversations he had with Triple H. He went on to say “there might be another conversation” per his podcast Keepin’ It 100.
Of all the promotions Konnan has worked for including WWE, WCW, ECW, AAA, TNA, ROH and so many more. On top of all his contributions to the business rather it be pioneering Lucha Libre, bringing your favorite stars to the United States and allowing others to follow in their foot steps. The two questions that I ask are 1.) Why is he not already in the WWE Hall of Fame and 2.) Who would induct him? The answer to the first question is the time and place seems to be at next years WrestleMania in the city that he helped bring Lucha Libre to the U.S. and the answer to the second question is could be one of two people and that would be Rey or Dominik Mysterio.
