UFC 277: Peña vs. Nunes Results – 7/30/22

It’s time for the UFC 277 Pay-Per-View. It comes to you live from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The event is headlined by the highly anticipated Bantamweight Championship rematch between Juliana Peña and Amanda Nunes. In our co-main, we have another rematch, but this time the interim-flyweight title is on the line when Brandon Moreno takes on Kai Kara-France. The results are in! Lets get into it.

Orion Cosce defeats Blood Diamond via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Cosce picks up his first UFC win after losing his debut fight last year. He used his wrestling skills to perfection in the first and third round. He was rocked in the second after a double back-fist but dominated the third with his very smooth flowing grappling. He puts Blood Diamond at 0-2 in the UFC and apologizes to everyone afterwards for missing weight, promises to get better.

Nicolae Negumereanu defeats Ihor Potieria via Round-Two TKO (punches)

What a showcase for Nicolae who is now on a four fight win streak, finishing a guy who came in on 15 fight win streak. Nicolae dominated with a mix of his grappling and striking in the first, but in the second, he kept it on the feet mixing up punches and knee strikes, he backed a very gassed Ihor against the cage and let loose with knees to the face and wild punches to get the TKO finish. After the fight, he calls for a bonus. There’s a possibility he gets it after that performance!

Joselyne Edwards defeats Ji Yeon Kim via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

Two straight wins in the span of two months for Edwards. She really used her size and reach advantage here and kept Kim back with her constant mix up of kicks. It seemed like Kim just couldn’t get into the fight until later on, but by that time, it was too late. Edwards continues on her win streak and looked good doing it, despite missing weight on short notice.

Michael Morales defeats Adam Fugitt via Round-Three TKO (punches)

Morales came into this fight undefeated and it stays that way as he advances to 14-0. He spoils the debut of Fugitt, who tried his best to wrestle the striker, but Michael’s takedown defense was on par tonight. Morales showed off some very fast, clean striking skills and when they got in close in the third, Morales scored a big knockdown with a shirt right. Fugitt surprisingly got back up but was dropped again almost immediately and Morales gets the TKO victory in a big way. Officially 2-0 in the UFC now.

Drakkar Klose defeats Rafa Garcia via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Drakkar wins a very, very close fight despite being taken down. But, Klose continued to push the pressure and got the win in a tough battle. After the fight, Drakkar Klose called out Tony Ferguson, says he wants to see who’s the king of Michigan.

Hamdy Abdelwahab Defeats Don’Tale Mayes via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Hamdy wins on 12 days notice on his sixth ever fight. This was an absolute war, just two big men throwing bombs, but ultimately it seems like Hamdy’s wrestling got him the big win. After the fight, Hamdy says that he’s not just a wrestler and proved that he can box too. A huge win on short notice.

Drew Dober defeats Rafael Alves via Round-Three Knockout (Punch)

A wild fight for these two tonight, both men throwing shots all the way through, but Drew Dober pushed the pace all night and it got to Alves. He gassed in the third and Drew landed a huge straight right to the body to shut down Alves for the KO. After the fight, he says that his coach saw the body shot and called for it and it worked. Beautiful striking from Drew and a big win.

Alex Morono defeats Matthew Semelsberger via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

Four straight wins for Alex Morono but it wasn’t easy. What a fight to end the prelims on, both men give it their all. Matthew’s eye was busted up and nearly closed shut early on, but he came back in the third and dropped Alex with a flying knee, he almost got the win but Alex fought back and stayed behind the jab to secure him the win. What a battle.

Magomed Ankalaev defeats Anthony Smith via Round-Two TKO (punches)

Magomed Ankalaev comes into his biggest fight yet and gets the TKO win with some nasty ground and pound strikes. He now advances to 18-1 with a potential to be the next challenger for the light heavyweight championship. After the fight, Magomed says he prepared really hard for this fight and was happy he got the win. During the first round, Magomed exchanged kicks with Smith and it broke Smith’s leg. Anthony was helped out of the cage after. Magomed asks on the mic how many does he have to win until he’s next for the title? He’s won 9 straight.

Alexandre Pantoja defeats Alex Perez via Round-One Submission (Rear-naked choke)

Well, Damn! Alexandre just came into the fight, walked down Perez, jumped on his back and got a standing rear-naked choke. Can’t say much else here, he made it look easy! After the fight, Pantoja says he should be next for the flyweight title, whoever wins later on tonight, he wants the winner. After a performance like that, it’s hard to deny him.

Sergei Pavlovich defeats Derrick Lewis via Round-One TKO (Punches)

Another very fast fight, the first exchange, Pavlovich drops Lewis and the ref calls it but Lewis popped right back up immediately. The crowd boo’s very loudly, commentary agrees, Derrick Lewis protests a early stoppage, which seems to be the case after watching the replay. After the fight, Sergei just says he did his job and is happy with his win.

Brandon Moreno defeats Kai Kara-France via Third-Round TKO (body kick)

Brandon Moreno is interim Flyweight Champion! What a war for three rounds between these men. Very even in the first, a back and forth fight going into the second. In the third, Kai was all over Brandon. He busted up his face with elbows, which has Moreno sporting a swollen bloody eye. It looked like Kai was going to take the round but Brandon fired off a body kick in the final minute of the round and dropped Kai. Moreno jumped all over him and it was stopped. After the fight, Moreno stares off with Deiveson Figueiredo who got into the cage. Brandon says he respects him and wants to fight him in December. The two shake hands and show respect. Deiveson Figueiredo Says he wants the fight in Brazil for the fourth, Brandon Moreno says he’s down. Figueiredo holds up Moreno’s hand in victory. What a moment.

Amanda Nunes defeats Juliana Peña via Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-44, 50-43)

What a fight. Amanda Nunes is the new Bantamweight Champion and once again a double champion for the second time! Nunes was dominating on the feet for the first two rounds. Drops Juliana four times but Juliana wouldn’t go away. So, Nunes turned to her wrestling and dominated on the ground. Peña tried for many submission attempts and came very close with an arm bar, but Nunes survived. Nunes busted Peña open bad in the late rounds but she stuck in there to a decision where Amanda Nunes is the new champion. After the fight, Amanda says she wants to rest, go back to Brazil and see her family. She says she will be back as soon as possible.

Don’t sleep on any UFC card. A lot of fans overlooked this card but it ended up being fantastic with some great finishes and a main event war. UFC 277 fired on every level. We will see you next week for UFC fight night Santos vs Hill!
