Tony Khan Confirms Original Plans For Forbidden Door Before Injuries

Tony Khan has confirmed plans involving injured stars for the Forbidden Door PPV this Sunday.

Over the last few weeks, AEW have been hit with many injuries. These injuries include the likes of Bryan Danielson and CM Punk, who have both been removed from the event due to injuries. Despite promises from both men to return to the ring, it has left fans feeling deflated. It hasn’t helped that Adam Cole has also been working through a shoulder injury, so he needed some time off before Forbidden Door.

While speaking on “Busted Open Radio” on SiriusXM, Tony talked about the original plans for the Forbidden Door event prior to the latest string of injuries.

“CM Punk got injured. AEW had to find a new main event now that the original plan of Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. CM Punk could no longer go forward.”

Moxley vs. Tanahashi is a dream match the fans have been calling for, for years,” Khan continued, calling Tanahashi, “one of the world’s greatest wrestlers.”

“And the TV was ready to go, we had a lot of great matches planned in the weeks leading into Forbidden Door. A lot of those matches involved CM Punk “and a number of other stars who are injured,”

Of course, Tanahashi has called for the match to still occur at Wrestle Kingdom a few months from now. Punk has no expected timetable for a return to the company, with many expecting him to be out for almost the rest of the year. Tanahashi and Moxley will decide who will be the interim champion in the mean time this Sunday at Forbidden Door.
