Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk Set to Fight Anthony Joshua on August 20th in Rematch

The rematch is set, the unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will be defending against the former champion Anthony Joshua on August 20th in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Matchroom Boxing confirmed the bout this morning, dubbing it the Rage on the Red Sea. The first bout between both men went down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England on September 25th, 2021 where Usyk defeated Joshua by unanimous decision to remain undefeated and become the new unified heavyweight champion of the world.

Joshua lost the championships in 2019 on June 1st to suffer his first pro boxing loss, he would emerge victorious in the rematch six months later when he outpunched and outscored Andy Ruiz Jr. to win the belts back at the Dinyah Arena in Dinyah, Saudi Arabia.

Joshua made a statement following the announcement on the Usyk rematch being set for Aug 20th:

“I now have my date with history set to become three-time unified heavyweight champion of the world. What an opportunity… A happy fighter is a dangerous fighter and I am the happiest and most motivated I’ve been.”

The current odds for the highly anticipated rematch have Usyk at a -240 and Joshua coming in as the underdog at +190.
