Leon Edwards Open To Giving Jorge Masvidal A Title Fight

Leon Edwards is scheduled to face Kamaru Usman for the UFC Welterweight Championship on August 20, 2022 at UFC 278. To promote his fight, Leon sat down with Ariel Helwani on the June 13, 2022 edition of The MMA Hour. During the conversation, Leon Edwards was asked about Jorge Masvidal withdrawing from a last contest of theirs. Leon went on to give his thoughts, plus mentions giving Jorge another crack at him.

I thought, “you little p****”. I had a feeling he was going to anyway, I don’t think he wants to fight, you know? And I’ve always said that I don’t think he wants to fight me. Honestly, I would’ve loved for that fight to happen. When I win the belt, I’ll give him the title shot. That’d be a fantastic fight in the U.K. Bring it back to the O2 where it happened, for the title. That’s what I want to do next.

Last time Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal were face to face, it was March of 2019 at the O2 in London England for UFC Fight Night 147. Jorge Masvidal defeated Darren Till in the main event and Leon Edwards defeated Gunnar Nelson in the co-main event. After the event, Masvidal and Edwards got into a verbal and semi-physical altercation that left Leon bloody and birthed the infamous “Two-piece and a soda” catchphrase for Jorge Masvidal. Since then, MMA fans have been clamoring for these two welterweights to clash inside of the cage. Now, it seems it could be a possibility and even with a championship on the line pending results on August 20th. In a dream scenario, finally getting this fight, for the title and even at the scene of the original altercation in London seems like a storybook payoff.
