AEW Reportedly Signing Buddy Matthews

Buddy Murphy was released from WWE in June of last year in a round of budgets cuts following an eight-year stint with the promotion. Since, Murphy, under the name Buddy Matthews, has been one of the top wrestlers in the world not signed to a major company. He’s competed on top independents, New Japan Strong and MLW. Yet, it seems as though a return to television is extremely likely.

Fightful Select is reporting that over the past few weeks there have been rumblings between talent about AEW possibly bringing in the former Cruiserweight Champion. Some Fightful sources have indicated that creativity has landed on a story, thought that has not been confirmed.

Back in September, Dave Meltzer had reported that AEW would be passing on Matthews, yet in the wrestling industry things can change on a moments notice. With all the free agents that the company has been bringing in recently, it would be foolish to rule out another signing, as AEW President Tony Khan has said he would leave the door open to signing more talent.
