Jake “The Snake” Roberts Talks About Speaking At Sherri Martels Funeral

Jake Roberts is a veteran of the wrestling world, and throughout his time under the bright lights he has had numerous public battles with internal demons and personal issues.

Throughout his career, he has seen peers that he had become close with, also go through personal issues. One of those that Roberts speaks highly of was Sherri Martel.

Martel was a huge star in the ’80s, notably managing the likes of Macho Man Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, and Shawn Michaels during her time with WWF (now WWE). Like Roberts, Sherri struggled for years with addiction. Unfortunately, she would lose her battle with the disease passing away on June 15, 2017, at the age of 49.

On the latest episode of “The DDP Snake Pit“, Roberts would recall what he said when he was asked to speak at Martel’s funeral.

I was so far down that I would get angry when I heard someone else had died. I went to Sherri’s funeral. Sherri and I had a long history. They asked me to say a few words. I got up and said Sherri I thought we were friends and you left me behind. F**k You.

It’s fair to say that Roberts has seen a host of friends and loved ones come and go. Roberts himself has said in previous interviews that had it not been for Dimond Dallas Page, he surely would have met his demise.

Roberts is currently signed with AEW and has been sober for a number of years. Roberts is a testament to anyone facing addiction that you can get better.
