Matt Riddle Was Never Set To Win The Royal Rumble, Despite Conflicting Reports

WWE held its annual Royal Rumble PPV live from St. Louis this past weekend. In the end, former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar won the Royal Rumble match for the second time in his career.

Reports had surfaced post-Rumble that the original plan for the match had Matt Riddle penciled in to win and main event at WrestleMania. However, these planned were allegedly changed last minute as Brock ended up winning the contest.

Fightful is now reporting that they are being told this report isn’t accurate. It was noted that top talent and longtime names in the company are saying that Brock was penciled in as the winner a few weeks prior to the match. Furthermore, it’s said that sources close to Matt Riddle say he was never told he was going to be winning the Royal Rumble.

Brock and Riddle are both set to challenge for the WWE Championship in the upcoming Elimination Chamber premium live event that will be held in Saudi Arabia.
