Update on Cody Rhodes Contract Status

Earlier today, Fightful Select reported on the contract status of Cody Rhodes, noting that he has been working without a contract since the end of 2021.

The obvious question which stems from that initial report is whether or not there is a distinction between his contract as an EVP or his contract as an on-screen performer for the company. Or indeed if there are two separate contracts.

Fightful Select updated the original story, stating that they asked for clarification on this point, and were told that “he’s a free agent with no contract with AEW at this moment.”

While the response does not specify one joint contract or two separate contracts for the EVPs, or Cody in particular, it does seem clear in stating there is nothing contractually tying him to AEW at this time.

Last year, Bodyslam’s Cassidy Haynes reported exclusively that Cody, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks “basically (they) are EVPs in name only in 2021. They no longer have final say in creative or talent hiring. Any of them. TK pulled back on the reigns and took that power away from all.”

We’ll keep following this story.
