Mustafa Ali Requests Release From WWE

WWE superstar Mustafa Ali made headlines on Sunday afternoon when he tweeted out that he’s requested his release from his WWE contract. Ali, real-name Adeel Alam, has been with WWE since the 2016 Cruiserweight Classic.

Ali was a staple of the cruiserweight division for years, including a WrestleMania championship program with Cedric Alexander, as well as critically acclaimed feuds with superstars such as Buddy Murphy prior to moving to SmackDown Live where he made an immediate impact by pinning the then-reigning WWE Champion Daniel Bryan. Ali seemed poised to become one of the next big star’s for WWE before being on and off television regularly and leading stables such as Retribution. Ali had recently been teaming with Mansoor.

“I have a message that is much bigger than my dreams in pro wrestling, despite my best efforts, I will not be able to deliver this message while working with WWE,” Ali said in a statement. “Therefore, I am requesting my release from WWE.”

Ali has spent years using his platform to discuss diversity in pop culture, acceptance of all cultures as well as political conversations such as police brutality, drawing from his experiences as a former Chicago police officer, which he even spoke about on the WWE Network on Raw Talk.
