Xavier Woods to miss 4-6 weeks with muscle tear in lower leg

Xavier Woods revealed on Thursday’s Attack of the Show livestream on G4 that he is dealing with a torn Plantaris muscle.

The Plantaris is located underneath the calf muscle and is actually absent in between 8-12% of the population. It can be injured from running, jumping, or pushing off one leg in sports or activities which may require quick foot movement in one direction.

Woods did state that the injury happened in the ring, but did not specify the match in which it occurred.

Yeah, so I was jumping in the ring to do a DDT. I spring off the bottom rope and grab the guy and then run his head into the ground hopefully shattering all the bones in his body so I can pin him and win the match, and make more money. So I did that part still but in the process — No, just jumping off the rope, so nothing like — not a shark attack, not a steel chair hit, not a machine gun, not a machete. I just jumped.

Woods also clarified that the injury happened close to the end of the match, but explained that while he was able to finish the bout, he will be out for a few weeks.

I still had some stuff to do. But in those situations, you’ve got to figure out like, ‘Am I hurt to the point where I can no longer like go forward? Am I hurt to the point where I could mess up and possibly negatively affect someone else’s health?’ You gotta keep everybody safe in there, and I was okay. You know, this sucks. I can’t do this or that but I can do this for this. We finished everything and it’s all cool. So, like, four to six weeks, and I’ll be good.

That timetable would mean that Woods is likely to miss the Royal Rumble on January 29, in St. Louis. The injury also makes Woods the second SmackDown Superstar to be injured in the last few weeks, as Sasha Banks is set to miss 6-8 weeks following a foot injury.
