Rumor Killer About Any Backstage Heat On Mercedes Martinez After Signing With AEW

On this week’s New years Smash episode of AEW Dynamite, we saw Mercedes Martinez return to AEW after being released from NXT back in June.

The returning Martinez would go on to interfere in the semi-final round of the AEW TBS Title Tournament match between Jade Cargill and Thunder Rosa, costing Thunder Rosa the match.

Martinez had previously competed for AEW back in 2019, but would eventually go on to sign with WWE/NXT in 2020. It had been speculated that there was heat on Martinez for choosing to sign with AEW, only after getting let go by WWE.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has confirmed that this is not the case. During a Fightful Q&A show, Sapp stated that there has been nothing but positivity surrounding Martinez’s signing.

“I haven’t heard of any (heat). I’ve actually heard of people who were very happy that Mercedes was brought in, and they wanted more experience. They think she can help along the lines of what Serena Deeb is doing. So, there’s a lot of positivity around her signing.”

Martinez has since thanked AEW President Tony Khan for the opportunity. we will have to wait and see what the new year holds for AEW.
