Exclusive: Backstage News And Notes From This Week’s AEW Dynamite And Rampage In Pittsburgh

AEW invaded Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this week for both Dynamite and the premiere episode of their new weekly program Rampage.

The week started out with a bang, as AEW Dynamite set the stage nicely for tonight’s debut episode of Rampage, which was packed full of memorable moments. A new IMPACT World Heavyweight Champion was crowned tonight, a new signing for the company, and the return of Jamie Hayter.

There were a couple of noteworthy names backstage this week. At Dynamite was, a former 5-time Ring of Honor Tag Champion, as well as a former member of WWE’s creative department, and current backstage producer and member of IMPACT’s creative team Jimmy Jacobs. Jacobs was also backstage tonight for Rampage. Also backstage tonight at Rampage was another member of IMPACT’s creative team, ECW original Tommy Dreamer.

It should also be noted that top independent wrestling talent Lee Moriarty worked a match that was taped for Dark against Dante Martin. I was told that Martin wasn’t the original opponent slated for Moriarty, as it was originally supposed to be Darby Allin taking on Lee Moriarty. However, it was decided to save Darby, so instead Dante got the nod and the two had roughly 10 minutes or so to put the match together.

I was also told that Fuego Del Sol was not clued in on the fact that Tony Khan was sending out Sammy Guevara tonight to present him with his new AEW contract. Fuego’s reaction was said to be completely real and genuinely surprised.
