New Report on NXT’s Standing Within WWE

NXT’s current standing within WWE has come into question in recent weeks. Fuel was thrown onto the first this past Monday when Current NXT Champion Karrion Kross lost his main-roster debut to Jeff Hardy in less than two minutes. For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with the week-to-week of WWE, Kross had been undefeated up to this point since he made his NXT debut in April 2020. Meanwhile, you can count on one hand the number of singles wins Hardy has gained this whole year.

The decision to hand the most well-built competitor on the Yellow-and-Black brand a loss in his Monday Night RAW debut came as a shocking one to most fans. While it’s nothing new for NXT talent to get called up to RAW or Smackdown just to be presented in a different light, this was a cut above (or below, depending on your perspective) the rest. The result not only de-valued Kross and his NXT Championship, but the NXT brand as a whole.

According to a report from Jon Alba of the Living The Gimmick podcast, that is exactly what WWE intended to do.

After speaking with company sources today, I was notified that NXT is now often referred to, in an official capacity, as “developmental,” including in meetings and within internal memos.

“It’s clear how NXT is now positioned, and positioned to us in meetings,” one source indicated. “Doesn’t make WWE look good to anyone.”

The head-scratching decision to have Kross lose in his debut was not the only potential-slight at NXT this past Monday on RAW. When Charlotte Flair was introduced on the show, she was referred to as an 11-Time Women’s Champion, which is interesting because she had previously been announced as being a 12-Time Champ. Her win at Money in the Bank should have gotten her number up to 13.

The reason her number fell is that WWE has seemingly stopped counting her two reigns with the NXT Women’s title, something they had been doing since the aftermath of WrestleMania 36.

The reason for this sudden cold-shoulder that WWE has given NXT is currently unknown. BodySlam.Net will let you know about any updates regarding this story.
