CM Punk Addresses The Idea Of Answering Will Ospreay’s Challenge In New Japan

It seems like every time his name is brought up, the internet starts to buzz over the idea of CM Punk returning to pro wrestling. Just as it started to die down after hopes he would return at the Royal Rumble this year or jump to AEW as their announced signing at Revolution, it kicked up again when Will Ospreay challenged him following his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship victory.

Every time his name is mentioned, CM Punk downplays the talk, but in an interview with Digital Spy, CM Punk addressed the possibility of facing Ospreay and in one of the most intriguing answers he’s given about returning to pro wrestling. Normally very non-committal about the idea, Punk didn’t want to give fans hope but it sounds the most interested he’s been to date.

“I don’t want to give people false hope in answering Ospreay. But he’s for sure somebody that I’ve never wrestled before that interests me a lot more than, I guess, the corporate side of professional wrestling nowadays. New and different things are going to interest me more than doing the same old, same old. I always need new goals. I don’t know. Let’s see if he has it at the end of the summer and then ask me the question again.”

The prospect of New Japan could definitely intrigue Punk, especially considering it would open up new doors he had never experienced before. While he wasn’t a definite on the idea of coming in to face Ospreay, many fans will take the fact he didn’t flat refuse the notion as a sign there’s some interest in the idea.
