Chelsea Green Says There Were “Rumblings” She Would Become Charlotte Flair’s Protege

Chelsea Green’s WWE tenure had been plagued with bad luck. Signing with WWE in 2018, Green wound up spending time injured there, in addition to getting her wrist injured in her debut match on SmackDown.

However, she did have some intriguing matches during her WWE run, including a tag team match where Charlotte Flair and her teamed up to face Io Shirai and Rhea Ripley. She spoke with Fightful Select about that match, where Flair raised her hand in victory after they won the match. She went on to say how she had heard “rumblings” backstage that Flair would become her on screen mentor and they would build a partnership.

“I was just kind of starting to get a little momentum. So, I didn’t hear anything. Funny enough, when I was out there at the very end of the match, I heard Charlotte; Charlotte raised my hand and said something. Said something like, ‘She is going to be next, or something along the line that made me think that I was going to be partnered with her or I was going to be her protege. And then, is that the right word? protege? Yeah! And then I kind of heard rumblings of that in the weeks after that I was going to be, I don’t want to say the next Charlotte, but coming up behind her, with her as my mentor, which is amazing. Like, I don’t know if you can get a better spot than that. And, then, kind of radio silence until the next storyline I heard about. I heard about a lot of storylines.”

It may not have panned out, but Green is a talented performer and she will no doubt have a lot of companies vying for her services when her 90 day no compete clause ends in July. Whatever the case is, she may not have to be anyone’s protege.
