Mickie James Auditioned For A Commentary Job With WWE Prior To Release

The last time we saw Mickie James on WWE television, she was doing work in the preshow for NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver. The former WWE Women’s Champion hadn’t been seen since the Royal Rumble prior to that appearance but it was her last in-ring performance for the company.

James had made it very clear she wanted to continue her in-ring career, but WWE didn’t see things that way. Now the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that while James’ age made her a “prime target” for being cut, she did try out for a commentary role prior to her release.

Wrestling is a cosmetic business, perhaps less now than in the past in some cases and especially for women, but it still partially is. Her not being used and her age made her a prime target to be cut. She did get tryouts to be a television announcer but that didn’t go anywhere.

Perhaps her tryout was the TakeOver preshow, or there could have been one prior, but it seems like nothing came from that situation. Hopefully James can now find new footing elsewhere.
