Kevin Owens Says He Pitched His WrestleMania Match Against Sami Zayn Last Summer

The eternal war between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens finally arrives at WrestleMania, bringing a rivalry that started on the independent scene to the Grandest Stage of Them All. Fans who have chanted “fight forever!” at the duo will finally get to see them have one of their typically acclaimed matches on this giant platform, this time with different twists.

Unlike most of the battles, Zayn comes into the match as the villain and Owens the hero as he tries to convince his long time friend and enemy he’s not the victim of a conspiracy theory. Speaking with TVA Sports, Owens spoke about the match and revealed that he actually suggested this WrestleMania match to Vince McMahon back in September of last year.

“In September, I proposed the idea to Vince McMahon, and then I didn’t hear about it again. It’s the WWE executives who have come back to us with this lately. It was inevitable and logical. As our careers have developed, a one-on-one match at WrestleMania is like the crowning of our career. It hadn’t struck me yet before I saw the graphic that formalized our match. Having a one-on-one match at WrestleMania is rarer, more and more difficult. So for us it’s a special accomplishment. So doing it together means more to us. It’s a big opportunity, there is no doubt about it.”

While it’s not the first, it certainly seems like it won’t be the last either.
