Drew McIntyre had a rough Sunday night. After surviving five other people and retaining his WWE Championship, McIntyre was brutalized post-match by Bobby Lashley which set up The Miz cashing in his Money In the Bank briefcase. Needless to say, McIntyre had it and is no doubt out for some payback.
However, Monday night saw no sign of the former WWE Champion as The Miz successfully navigated around defending the title at all and watched as Bobby Lashley successfully defeated Braun Strowman to guarantee he’ll be facing Miz one on one next Monday on Raw. One would have assumed McIntyre would have found some involvement, but there was a clear storyline reason he wasn’t around.
Dave Meltzer mused on this during Wrestling Observer Radio, where he felt like most of the storyline things that happened last night could have been complicated by McIntyre’s presence on the show.
“No mention of his name pretty much. Well, I think that the feeling is that if he was on the show then he’d have to kill Miz and they didn’t want him killing Miz this week, because what would you do with him on the show if your direction was Lashley getting a title shot next week?”
“I mean the thing is him being there would have been a negative because then you’ll be going, ‘Why didn’t he get a title shot? And why isn’t he beating up Miz immediately because he’s the one who got screwed. Why isn’t he beating up Lashley for screwing him?”
It makes logical sense they’d want to make sure McIntyre wasn’t there to take his revenge on a night they had things to set up. However, given the fact that Miz doen’t seem to have a place in the WWE Title match at WrestleMania, one can only assume McIntyre will have his chance to get back into the title picture once he returns to Raw.
