Backstage News On AEW Women’s Eliminator Tournament

AEW announced the Women’s Championship Eliminator Tournament. They decided to raise the stakes by making it a Japan vs. USA tournament where the winner of each bracket will square off to decide who gets a one on one match against Hikaru Shida, the AEW Women’s Champion.

While the USA side of the bracket kicks off this Wednesday on Dynamite, we have a little clearer picture where the Japan side will work. Wrestling Observer Radio has reported that the Japanese side of the tournament will be shot at the Ice Ribbon Dojo in Japan. Hikaru Shida recently arrived to help out with production of the tournament on the Japanese side.

“Hikaru Shida is already in Japan right now. The Japanese side is being filmed, and may have already been filmed at the Ice Ribbon Dojo. It’s a closed set and nobody know what’s happening and stuff. That’s where she’s been. She had to quarantine for two weeks and then she’s there and they’re doing it now.”

Wednesday will see Thunder Rosa and Leyla Hirsch square off on Dynamite for the first round of the tournament, and while AEW hasn’t announced when or where we will see the Japan side of the tournament, they’re certainly going through a lot of things to make sure not only does it have proper production but that it will be the quality AEW is hoping for.
