Update On Steve Cutler’s Release, More Details On What Led To Heat That Caused Firing

Steve Cutler was released from the WWE last night and while it seemed surprising, it was still a quiet end to a troubled main roster run through no fault of his own. While reports came out that Cutler had heat over a positive COVID-19 test with Vince McMahon, new details have surfaced that provide a little context over the heat that Cutler garnered.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the backstage belief is Cutler’s heat stems from from the fact he contracted COVID-19 at a New Year’s Eve party. McMahon had been promising people like Roman Reigns and others that the WWE would have a safe work environment only for this to pop up.

The belief is that it had to do with his New Year’s Eve party that led to that and that McMahon had promised a few wrestlers like Reigns a safe environment when he returned and Cutler was around all the talent […] He is believed to be the first pro wrestler fired for getting COVID

He wasn’t the only one to get COVID from that party. Cutler’s girlfriend, Impact Wrestling’s Deonna Purrazzo also tested positive as well. It was due to this test that McMahon nixed the Knights of the Lone Wolf gimmick he and Wesley Blake had been given.

The report also added Cutler was at the WWE Performance Center training in the “big men” class when he got fired. He was taking bumps for the main roster guys the WWE wants partaking in more training. There is no reported heat on Wesley Blake, who is now once again in limbo following another frustrating situation involving a tag team partner.
