3 Bold UFC Predictions For 2021

This coming weekend marks the official beginning of the UFC’s 2021 chapter in history.

We start with a sensational bout between Holloway vs Kattar and the return of Conor McGregor taking place this month. Clearly Dana White wishes to start 2021 with a bang to kickstart what is sure to be a fabulous year of fighting.

The thrill of fighting is knowing that any outcome is possible and based on that thrill, here’s three bold predictions ahead of the 2021 calendar.

1. 3 Title changes

Almost every belt in the UFC will definitely defended during 2021. Adesanya getting a shot at the light heavyweight title, the vacant lightweight title’s decision, Volkanovski looking to prove a point and plenty other scores to be settled. I see some big wins happening this year and rivalries taking shape.

2. Conor McGregor doesn’t reclaim lightweight title

This would shock me but at the same time, I have some logic behind believing he won’t reclaim the belt. The mentality of having “nothing to lose” can swing in two completely different directions. It can spur people on to give it absolutely everything but it can also lead to being less hungry for something as there’s no real consequence on your life for losing. McGregor has done everything, made the money, become a businessman essentially and basically become a one man brand. Can he really ever be the same guy he used to be? I’m not saying he’ll lose to Poirier but what if he’s confronted with Gaethje or Oliveira next for the belt? Those are both guys I consider to be huge threats to McGregor simply because their “nothing to lose” mentality now comes from a completely different place. Polarising drives can lead to polarising results.

3. Khamzat Chimaev beats 2 top ranked fighters, both within 3 rounds

I had this guy as “2020 Fighter of the year” for a reason, so far he’s seemingly unstoppable and it’s a shame that his fight with highly ranked competitor Leon Edwards was cancelled/postponed. However, I’m confident that this will eventually take place and Chimaev will ultimately pick up the victory, based on hunch rather than a certainty. I would then be craving a fight against BMF belt holder, Jorge Masvidal, next. Which I would also see Chimaev winning against. I don’t see him being given Usman in 2021 but he can end the year within the division’s top five for sure.

Twists and turns along the way and upsets bound to occur, 2021 offers the potential to be special for MMA.
