Jim Ross Thinks Lack Of Motivation Stalled Carlito In WWE

Carlito had star written all over him in the WWE during his stint with the company. Getting a main event feud with John Cena off the bat, it looked like WWE saw him as a future main eventer. He wound up having quite the six years with the company before his departure, but nothing ever really clicked with him.

On an episode of the Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross talked about Carlito’s time in the WWE and his thoughts on it. He said Carlito had been a great worker with lots of potential, but motivation had definitely been a factor in him not reaching the full heights of who he could have become.

Ross wound up joking that Carlito not being lazy in his interactions with women, but he could not live up to his potential in the pro wrestling world.

“He’s a good worker. His only enemy has always been his own motivation. He can be as good as he wants to be, so therefore some perceive that he might be a little unmotivated, i.e., a little lazy. He wasn’t lazy in his interactions with the fairer sex because he was a Hall of Famer in that area. If he kept his eye on the prize and wanted to go in and work, he was absolutely extraordinary.”

While Carlito had been advertised for RAW Legends Night, he didn’t appear, saying he had no interest in making a short cameo. And as many of us will remember the popular star, it’s clear he never quite reached the heights many thought he would.
