Speculation On Marty Scurll’s Future

Marty Scurll has entered free agency after a mutual decision to part ways with Ring of Honor. The move came as no surprise to anyone, as Scurll has been under internal investigation from Sinclair Broadcasting following accusations made from the Speaking Out movement. Things could get very interesting for Scurll, as some consider him to be a highly coveted free agent.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Scurll’s options, nothing that despite having very good friends in control at AEW, that might not be the simplest choice. Meltzer thinks WWE may be the destination for “The Villain.” Much of it has to do with WWE having been in operation for so long that they can weather the controversy around signing him while AEW has to be more cautious to avoid upsetting fans. He also thinks that if it wasn’t for the pandemic, New Japan would be an option.

“If it was normal [regarding the pandemic] then he would go to New Japan. Again, it wouldn’t shock me to see him go to WWE. AEW I think would be tougher, but that’s the situation.”

Scurll is clearly a talented athlete, but the cloud over him may be the problem to any company taking him on board. The WWE clearly has no issues with the controversy, as they have yet to do much about the allegations surrounding the Velveteen Dream or Austin Theory.
