Vickie Guerrero Says Her Famous Catchphrase Developed On Accident

During Vickie Guerrero’s tenure in WWE, she quickly became a fixture on television after getting a chance to get a General Manager role on Raw and SmackDown. The wife of the late Eddie Guerrero, Vickie wound up making a name for herself in pro wrestling with her own personality and one thing that made her stand out.

During her entire tenure with the company, Vickie never once used an entrance theme, her arrival signaled with two words – Excuse me!

Guerrero had a chance to speak with Lucha Libre Online, and one of the topics that came up was her catchphrase and how it was born out of an accident. One night, the script she had been given for her segment had been changed several times, leading to her forgetting her lines by the time it came to cut her promo.

“And so when I went out to the stage and he pushed me on the wheelchair, I went out there and I’m like, I just even know where to start and I even know which promo out to grab. I was lost. So the crowd is very smart, the fans you have to give them credit because they know exactly what’s going on in my face, (my) expression. I forgot and they started saying things like you need to go home. You don’t know what you’re doing. Get off the stage. You forgot your lines and I just yelled: ‘EXCUSE ME’. I said it again and then I didn’t think anything of it and then the next week, the writers are like, hey, let’s try that. Excuse Me again. Little by little the fans were expecting it every time I would come out for my promo or whatever I had to say.”

Sometimes a performer can get something over with minimal effort, leading to fans getting behind some of the silliest things. Vickie’s “excuse me!” can now count itself among those silly moments phrases like Steve Austin’s “What?” and any time Teddy Long showed up to tell people they were “going on one…with the Undertaker!”
